Checking bags on U.S. AIR? Pay online. It's
worth it! Save time and money when you check in online.
After August 26,
2009, you'll be able to pay for checked bags when you check in online – $20 for
your first checked bag and $30 for your second. For customers who choose to pay
for checked bags at the airport, there will be an additional $5 service fee, so
save a few hard earned dollars when you check in online!
Dividend Miles Preferred members are exempt from checked bag fees for the
first and the second checked bags.
Oversize/overweight bags
Please pay overweight and oversize bag charges
at the airport.
On top of our checked bag fees, we charge:
•$50 extra for bags that weigh between 51-70 lbs (23-32 kg)
•$100 extra
for bags that weigh between 71- 100 lbs (32-45 kg)
•$100 extra for bags
larger than 62 in/157 cm (we will not accept bags over 80 in/203 cm)
More Checked Luggage Security Considerations:
Luggage may be checked at the ticket counter and at the E-Ticket Check-In
Kiosks that U.S.Airways operates at New York LaGuardia, Boston Logan,
Philadelphia, and Reagan Washington National airports. At all other airports,
skycaps will be available to assist customers in bringing baggage to the ticket
counter. Customers escorted by a skycap will be taken to the check-in line.
Luggage may be checked at the airport within four hours of flight time.
Random searches of checked baggage may be performed with high-powered
scanning machines that damage film. Cameras and film should be packed in
carry-on baggage.
Carry-on baggage
You're allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item.
Personal items include a purse, briefcase or laptop bag.
Size requirements
•Up to 45 in/115 cm (14 x 9 x 22 in or 36 x 23 x 56 cm)
•Up to 40 lbs/18 kg
Certain items cannot be packed in carry-ons, including:
NO LIQUIDS OR GELS OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED IN CARRY-ON BAGGAGE. THESE
ITEMS MUST BE IN CHECKED BAGGAGE. This includes all beverages, shampoo, suntan
lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency.
To ensure the health and welfare of certain air travelers the following items
are permitted.
Customers are now permitted to carry on nail clippers, safety razors
(including disposable razors), syringes (with proper documentation), tweezers,
eye-lash curlers, walking canes and umbrellas. Also the following items will be
permitted:
Small amounts of Baby formula and breast milk if a baby or small child is
traveling
Liquid prescription medicine with a name that matches the
passenger’s ticket
Up to 5 oz. (148ml) of liquid or gel low blood sugar
treatment
Up to 4 oz. of essential non-prescription liquid medications
including saline solution, eye care products and KY jelly
Gel-filled bras
and similar prostethics
Gel-filled wheelchair cushions
Life support and
life sustaining liquids such as bone marrow, blood products, and transplant
organs carried for medical reasons
You are permitted to bring solid
cosmetics and personal hygiene items as such lipstick, lip balm and similar
solids. Please remember these items must be solid and not liquid, gel or
aerosol.
Items that are prohibited in carry-on baggage include: cutting instruments of
any size or material, corkscrews, baseball/softball bats, golf clubs, pool cues,
ski poles, and hockey sticks. All liquids, gels, or aerosols of any kind are
prohibited at security checkpoints, in airport sterile areas, and aboard
aircraft. You can pack these items in your checked baggage.
Knives of any
length.
Cutting instruments of every kind (metallic or non-metallic),
including carpet knives, box cutters and other folding or retractable blades,
regardless of length
Items such as ice picks, straight razors, elongated
scissors and knitting needles. (Safety/disposable razors, such as Gillette and
Schick, are allowed.)
Required Documents
Before leaving home be sure to bring proper photo identification. Be sure you
get a passport, as you will need a passport for all future airline travel.
Only customers holding an electronic ticket confirmation letter, a travel
agency itinerary, a US Airways itinerary, a boarding pass or a paper ticket will
be permitted beyond the security check points.
Check-In Times
US Airways begins boarding 30 minutes prior to departure and customers should
be present at the boarding gate or on the aircraft at least 10 minutes prior to
departure time. At that time, seats may be reassigned to other passengers. It is
US Airways' policy to close the aircraft door five minutes prior to scheduled
departure. For specific airport information, please see Airport Check-In Times
Check-In
Before leaving home be sure to bring proper photo identification. Acceptable
are a valid photo driver's license, an active passport or an employee
identification from a county, state or federal agency. US Airways strongly
recommends that passengers traveling from the United States to Canada carry a
passport. Luggage may be checked at the ticket counter or at the E-Ticket
Check-In Kiosks that US Airways operates at New York LaGuardia, Boston Logan and
Reagan Washington National airports. Luggage may be checked at the airport
within four hours of flight time.
Dividend Miles Preferred members may check in at the First Class ticket
counter even if not seated in First Class.
US Airways Club members may check in at the Club once access has been gained
through the security check-point.
For all passengers traveling to or from Reagan Washington National Airport:
US Airways Shuttle passenger may check in at the special Shuttle counter
adjoining the security check-point for Gates 35-45. Shuttle passengers can no
longer pass through security check-point without proper identification and
required documents.
If checking baggage at curbside or traveling only with carry-on luggage,
please proceed directly to the gate to check in. Only customers holding an
electronic ticket confirmation letter, a travel agency itinerary, a US Airways
itinerary, a boarding pass or a paper ticket will be permitted beyond the
security check points. Proper photo identification is also required.
Gate Passes
Special arrangements can be made at the check-in counter to
provide gate passes for parents and guardians of unaccompanied minors and
passengers with special needs. Unaccompanied minors and passengers with special
needs are required to go to the airport ticket counter to check in.
Security
Customers without an electronic or paper ticket will not be permitted in the
gate areas to greet arriving passengers or to accompany departing passengers.
Customers may be requested to demonstrate the operation of electronic
equipment, including laptops, cell phones and pagers.
Customers should not
gift-wrap items, as both carry-on and checked baggage may have to be opened for
inspection.
Unauthorized, unattended vehicles near a terminal building will
be towed.
There will be an increased presence of law enforcement and
security personnel at airports along with a heightened awareness regarding
unattended bags
